Hancock House Boston Hand-Colored Lithograph in giltwood frame. Hancock House located at 30 Beacon Street, built between 1734-1737, was the first house to be erected on the top of Beacon Hill. Home to Massachusetts Governor and famous signer of the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock, who inherited the property and lived in the house until his death in 1793. The property was bought two years later by the Massachusetts government slated to be the site of the state’s new capitol. After much debate the house was finally torn down in 1863.
