Pair of 19th-Century William Morris 'Sussex' Rush Seat Armchairs.

The 'Sussex' Armchair was designed around 1860 and was available at the William Morris Shop. It was available in various styles in black or red. The shape was based on early country designs and was meant to be light-weight and moveable. It sold in large numbers and became the firm's most familiar product. 

An example of a 'Sussex' chair can be found at The Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

This pair of chairs are in good condition, but with some repairs and traces of green paint.
