Leather Elephant Footstool by Dimitri Omersa for Abercrombie & Fitch. c.1960

Height: 17.5 in.

Length: 26 in. (from tail to tusk)

Width: 10 in.

Dimitri Omersa began making leather animals in 1927 with the first leather pig he made with the left over leather while working in luggage manufacture at Liberty's of London. The animals or "footstools" were a great hit. The donkey and the elephant were the next two animal types he created when he brought them to America in the early 1960's.

*this elephant is in great condition, all seams are solid, he does have some age spots and stains, but they really add to his charm.
